Engaging With Policymakers: Why Scientists and Engineers Hold Back -- Roughly 90% of researchers said scientists and policymakers don't communicate enough. But, only about 60% said they were sure of the names of their elected federal representatives. Experts probed this paradox at the AAAS Forum on Science & Technology Policy organized by Tobin L. Smith, co-author of Beyond Sputnik: U.S. Science Policy in the 21st Century.

Engaging Scientists and Engineers in Policy (ESEP): The Engaging Scientists & Engineers in Policy (ESEP) Coalition is an ad hoc alliance of organizations that have joined together to empower scientists and engineers to effectively engage in the policy making process at all levels of government (international, federal, state and local). ESEP serves as a one-stop-shop for resources, networking events, and other engagement opportunities for students, scientists and engineers, policy professionals, and others interested or already engaged in science and technology policy. The Journal of Science Policy and Governance (JSPG): JSPG is an interdisciplinary research journal that publishes articles written by students and young scholars in science, engineering and all other fields.Published in an open-access format and on an accelerated timeline, articles range from 1000 word op-eds to 35 page technology assessments and cover emerging or continuing science policy debates. JSPG is supported by thought leaders in science policy and serves as a vehicle for student and scholar engagement. In addition to publishing, JSPG shares jobs, programs, internships, fellowships, news, events and academic programs relating to science policy on social media.
National Science Policy Network (NSPN): NSPN is a non-profit representing early career science policy, advocacy, and diplomacy groups distributed across the country, focused on providing a platform for sharing resources, building relationships, and training the next generation of scientists and engineers to be pivotal voices in all levels of policy making.
